The QURAN Method
In this article, we will discuss how you can start Quran journaling in this blessed month of Ramadan as a beginner. Quran journaling is a powerful way to engage with the words of Allah (SWT) on a deeper level, helping you to reflect, learn, and apply its teachings in your daily life.
At Hayaa the Label, we believe that true beauty lies in the connection between faith and personal growth. Just as our modest fashion designs help women feel confident in their hijab, Quran journaling is a way to embrace the beauty of the Quran in everyday life.
Engagement with the Quran Brings Reward
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one reward for it, and this one reward will be multiplied by ten. I do not say that ‘Alif, Lam, Meem’ is one letter, but ‘Alif’ is a letter, ‘Lam’ is a letter, and ‘Meem’ is a letter.”
[Tirmidhi, 2910]
To make it simple, we will use the English letters of "QURAN" as a structured way to study and connect with the Quran.
Things You Need:
- A comfortable area/desk
- A Quran
- A pen for taking notes
- A notebook or journal
- Tafsir sources (books, audios, YouTube, etc.)
- An open heart—ready to welcome the words of Allah, receive His message, and reflect deeply.
The QURAN Method
This method provides a simple foundation that you can build upon as you grow in your understanding of the Quran. Let’s break it down:
Q - Quote the Ayah
Start by writing down the ayah (verse) in Arabic. This allows you to visually connect with the actual words revealed by Allah (SWT). Even if you don’t understand Arabic, seeing the script strengthens your familiarity with the Quranic text.
U - Understand the Meaning
Write down the translation of the ayah in your language. Understanding the meaning is crucial because the Quran was sent as guidance. This step helps to internalise the message rather than just reading the words without comprehension.
R - Reflect on the Context
Understanding the who, what, when, and where of a verse is key. Look into the reason for the revelation (Asbab al-Nuzul), the background, and the historical setting of the verse. This step helps us see how and why Allah revealed these specific words to us.
A - Analyse the Tafsir
Read the tafsir (exegesis) of the verse. What does the verse teach us? What lessons can we derive? Allah’s words are filled with wisdom, and by studying the tafsir, we can grasp a deeper understanding beyond just the surface.
N - Note Personal Reflections & Implement
This is where you personalise your Quran journaling experience. Ask yourself:
- How does this verse apply to me?
- What can I do differently in my life because of this verse?
- How can I use this ayah to improve my character and strengthen my faith?
Writing down your reflections helps reinforce the impact of the Quran in your life. Implementation is the key—knowledge without action does not bring transformation.
Encouragement
The Prophet (SAW) said:
"The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it." [Bukhari, 5027]
This encourages us not only to study the Quran ourselves but also to share its teachings with others. Make the decision now on what you want to study next. When your heart is already reflecting on a verse, it is easier to keep going. The best time to connect with the Quran is always now—especially in Ramadan, the month of the Quran.
At Hayaa the Label, our mission is to empower women through modest fashion and spiritual growth. Let us know how your Quran journaling journey goes! May Allah (SWT) bless us all with the ability to understand, reflect upon, and act upon His words. Ameen.
